I have chosen to continue to work at Benjamin Franklin Charter School for 18 years now because of the atmosphere that the school and its staff provide. I have always felt supported and heard. I feel very comfortable sharing my thoughts and ideas with my colleagues and administration. When I first began teaching with BFCS, I had every tool and support I needed to help me become a successful teacher to ensure that my students had a great year of learning. This organization provides its staff with professional development opportunities to keep us moving in the right direction to help our students learn and grow with their hearts and minds. I love BFCS and look forward to many more years of providing a well-rounded education with high standards and respect for ourselves and our community.

Benjamin Franklin is unique because it brings together both classical education and the so called 'normal high school experience'. Students receive three different waves of English and History that go together - this way they are being exposed to the same material at different times, and then it really sinks in to their soul. But also, students have the sports, the clubs, and the activities so that they are having a well-rounded high school experience. I love that both of those things happen for the students. I love that I get to teach what I love every single day, that's the best part of my job. I also love the students, they are so much fun! They are quick, they are witty, and they are intellectually curious which is great because it makes my job all the more exciting. I also love the environment here - the people I work with, and also the activities that go on at this school. It's been great!

What I love about Benjamin Franklin is the emphasis on learning combined with a warm, supportive community of parents, staff and students. Everyone involved strives to enhance the level of communication and interaction so that the students benefit from a cohesive learning environment. I teach here because I feel that I can directly impact the educational growth of my students. It is a dream come true to watch my students develop into curious, expressive, and intellectually stimulated young adults. Benjamin Franklin provides the platform that allows me to help them with that journey.

I teach at Benjamin Franklin High School because the students are held to a higher standard and therefore rise to meet those expectations. I have the freedom and encouragement to incorporate virtues into my everyday lessons. The students are engaged and learn over time to provide thoughtful conversation and argument. I recognize that I’m doing more than preparing them for the next phase in their life. I am privileged to be a small part of a larger machine (including their families first and foremost, admin, and other teachers and coaches on campus) preparing these students for life.

I work at BFCS because it is a school that understands that being a good person is just as important as having a good brain in your head. We get to teach students to be responsible, kind, and courteous just as much as we teach them math facts, spelling words, and reading skills. I love being a teacher here because I get to spend all day in the place that makes me happy. I get to see the smiles, hear the giggles, and watch the 'oh I get it!' faces of my young students. Seeing them work so hard to grow and learn is truly an incredible thing to witness. I am grateful my students get to attend such a wonderful school and that I get to be a small part of their educational journey!

I love BFHS because the way they have structured the school allows for in-depth conversations about vital topics such as what is right and what does it mean to be human. I love the teamwork between all the teachers to train these young minds to think critically for themselves. This school is truly a place that values education and knows the impact a good education can have on a life and the community.
