7th Grade Information

Our 7th grade life science course is designed to introduce and reinforce the concepts of the scientific method in relation to life on Earth. Students will develop the skills necessary to collect and record observations, and use those records to analyze the data they collected. They'll learn how to write instructions, describe observations, and show information in graphical form. 

Our science courses are interactive, and students will have the opportunity to partake in labs and other projects throughout the course.

All incoming 7th graders will take our Math Placement test to ensure they are enrolled in the best math course to set them up for future success. 7th graders who are coming from one of our elementary campuses will take this test in school. For those who are new to BFCS, our front office staff will schedule this test. Most 7th grade students will take Course 2, Course 3 (Pre-Algebra), or Algebra I. 

The ultimate result of any good education is that students will become citizens who are not easily influenced by false ideas and are able to contribute to the society around them. Seventh-grade history at BFHS will accomplish those two goals by introducing students to the people, the books, and the ideas that produced them and the culture in which they live.

Students will learn about the lives, work, and ideas of great leaders in history such as Homer, Thucydides, Alexander the Great, Jesus, Thomas Aquinas, Machiavelli, John Locke, Shakespeare, and Winston Churchill. Through reading, writing, and discussion of historical figures, works, and ideas, seventh-graders will learn to think critically about the people, the books, and the ideas of their own day, preparing them to live moral and influential lives

Students will be enthralled by such specimens of superb writing, theater, and lore as Homer’s Odyssey, Beowulf, plays by William Shakespeare, and fictional masterworks of Charles Dickens and C.S. Lewis. Exposure to these great works of literary art will not only steep students in stories where virtue is triumphant, but will, at the same time, allow them the opportunity to emulate the greatest of history’s authors.

Writing experiences will include narrative writing, expository writing (including report and summary writing), note taking, and poetry, thereby allowing students the opportunity to gain skills that are applicable not only to the subjects, but to their daily lives as well. The course also includes a practical study of grammar conventions, vocabulary development, and oral speaking.

All 7th grade students will take Consumer Economics for one semester. This course will prepare students to integrate knowledge, skills, and practices in the U.S.. economic system and the system's impact on individuals as consumers and citizens.

They'll leave with a better understanding of basic finances, and practical tools when it comes to budgeting and managing personal finances. 

All 7th grade students will take our JH Computers course for one semester. Students will learn the fundamentals of keyboarding and the functions and tools in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

This course also covers the history of computers, basic hardware and components, Digital Citizenship (internet safety & etiquette), an introduction to Google Drive, basic digital design, and resource discovery & retrieval tools (using the internet).

Some classes 7th graders have the opportunity to take include: Men's Ensemble, Women's Ensemble, Beginning Band, Concert Band, Beginning Strings, Concert Strings, Art, Intro to Ballet/Jazz, and many others!
