Summer Reading & Assignments
Recommended Summer Reading
BFHS has curated a small selection of grade-level-appropriate books that all Chargers will hopefully find both educational and entertaining. These books will expose students to some of the themes, historical events, and contexts they will study throughout the coming year. The goal is to create something worthwhile for students and nurture their capacity to read for enjoyment without adding too much to their busy summer schedules. Though none of the summer reading books are on the reading list for during the school year, each one of these stories has been selected due to their thematic connections to the courses and for their place in the pantheon of great books in the Western Tradition.

Required Summer Assignments (AP Humanities)
The purpose of the summer assignments is to ensure that 11th-12th grade students enrolled in these advanced level classes are ready to ‘hit the ground running’ upon their return to school each fall. The assignments will require the student to read a specific text and annotate the reading following the guidelines listed within each assignment. By reading and annotating the summer book/reading, the teacher can immediately begin teaching and discussing the material, making classroom time more efficient and productive for these classes that move at a quicker pace than those on the traditional track.
AP summer assignments are both compulsory and graded; if not completed over the summer they must be completed in the first few weeks of school to avoid the students' class grade being penalized.
