In Memory of Mr. Rob Nichols
At the request of Mr. Nichols' wife, Mrs. Jenny Nichols, we have set up an area for individuals to honor Mr. Nichols' memory by making a donation to the BFHS Fine Arts Department. If you would like to make a donation in his memory, you may visit our online donation platform by clicking on the links below.
Mr. Nichols was an inspiration, leader, and pioneer in our Fine Arts Program, and we are grateful to be able to honor his wife's wishes in this way.
Dear BFHS families,
It is with great sadness that I share with you that a former and beloved teacher, Robert Nichols, passed away February 21st, 2021. Rob was not only a teacher, but a great friend and colleague to all of us at BFHS. Rob was a man who led with kindness, care, strength, expectation, and integrity with all that he did. Rob exemplified the characteristics of our school, and he was in many ways responsible for the growth of our entire fine arts program.
Charger way two states, “Yield not to misfortune, but advance all the more boldly against it.” I will always think of Rob whenever our students recite this phrase because Rob did just that. When diagnosed with terminal cancer, Rob told me that he would continue to teach until he couldn’t do it any longer. For nearly a year, Rob would instruct his classes remotely while another member of our faculty would supervise the students in person. Rob’s classroom management and teaching style only became stronger in this new and remote environment.
When Rob knew it was time to step away from the responsibility of teaching, he insisted on being part of the interview process to make sure that he “replaced myself, well, with myself.” His continued dedication and vision for the program led to the hiring of renowned and accomplished orchestra teacher, Mrs. Cindy Petty. Rob left his mark on BFHS in just about every way imaginable, including sharing his vision of what a fine arts building should look and sound like.
Rob’s family is surrounded by the people who they need most right now, and at this time their only request is to share stories about Rob on the Facebook page titled “Friends of Rob Nichols.” At this time, funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced as soon as they are available.
The Benjamin Franklin community is so grateful to Rob for the impact he had on thousands of people in our community. Your prayers and well wishes for peace and comfort for his family are appreciated.
